Repair or Replace Your Oven?
Honest advice from a Perth sparky with 30+ years experience.
I'll tell you straight — sometimes repair makes sense, sometimes it doesn't.
The Simple Rule of Thumb
Repair
- Oven is less than 8 years old
- Single fault (element OR thermostat OR fan)
- Good quality brand (Westinghouse, Electrolux, etc.)
- Parts are still available
Cost: $179 – $380 typically
Replace
- Oven is 12+ years old
- Multiple faults (board + hinges + seal)
- Control board failure (often $400+ to repair)
- Parts discontinued
New oven + install from $800
The 50% Rule
If the repair cost exceeds 50% of the price of a new oven, it's generally better to replace. For example, if a comparable new oven costs $800 and the repair quote is $450 — replace. If it's $300 — repair. Andrew will always tell you which way it falls before he starts any work.
Not Sure? Send Me a Photo
